Women's Posture

Q: I read a great article of yours, Woman's Posture from a Man's Perspective  and have a question or two. In it, you recommend holding each rep of postural exercises (such as the prone cobra) for 5 seconds for starters. My question is, should I be resting between reps, or go right into the next 5 second rest? If a rest is desirable, what is the purpose? Do you just recommend one set of each exercise? How many days/week (just one?)

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

A: Generally, the recommendation is to work for 5 seconds then rest for 5 seconds and repeat until the desired number of repetitions are complete. I prefer that my clients rest just long enough to release the tension from the muscle (which may only take a couple seconds.)

Postural exercises should be performed 2 or 3 times a day, everyday for best results (1-2 sets will suffice.) At low intensities, a greater frequency can be employed.
